So, you’ve backed in to your garage door… what now?
It has happened to the best of us – You’re rushing around trying to get out of the house on time, and then – BANG! You’ve backed into your garage door.
What can I do?
Don’t touch anything just yet. There are a lot of crucial components to your garage door… Are the rollers in their tracks? Are they still attached to the hinges? Are the cables properly aligned to the drums?
If you can clearly see the door has come out of its tracks or something just doesn’t look right, there is unfortunately not a lot that you can do. Remember your standard residential garage door can weigh from 60KG-130Kg, and if something isn’t where it should be, you can risk significant injury by touching it with out professional knowledge. Don’t touch any of the parts and call a garage door professional right away. You may be able to get a same day appointment, if the door is not able to be secured (leaving your home open), where one of our technicians will come and inspect the door and possibly repair it on the spot. If a repair isn’t a possibility, they will generally be able to secure it, and quote on a replacement door or panel/s. The door may not be usable but at least it will prevent unwanted guests from entering in the meantime.
Do I need to call my Insurance company?
Depending on the amount of damage done to your door, you may want to. Upon inspection, our team will provide a quote with our recommendation and an Insurance Report for you to pass onto your Insurance Company. If your Car has been damaged, be sure to contact your Car Insurance company also, as generally your car Insurance wont cover damage to your garage door and vice versa. While we do not deal directly with your insurance company, we are happy to provide the necessary reports to ensure the best outcome.
